And I get to give the same thing I got away to one of you. No money traded hands. Just glossies. P.S. I love being ad free and the boss of my own blog.***

the moosh was about two. I got a subscription renewal in the mail for Parents magazine- RENEW NOW! 5 YEARS FOR ONLY $25! Sweet right?

Wrong.

My baby is almost five and there’s no other baby around. I don’t want to read about breastfeeding or 75 ways to raise a healthy! confident! baby! I scan the recipes and then just get depressed looking at all the swollen bellies and cute things they never had when I had kids (yes, I’ve become one of those people.)

Yet Parents magazine will be showing up at my door for another three years. Hurrah. *eye roll*

So here’s the deal with Maghound.

It starts at $4.95 a month and you pick any three magazines you want. They are delivered to your house and if you hate one of them? Or stop being pregnant? Or decide that a certain fashion magazine just makes you feel frumpy? Change it out for a new one the next month.

(So yeah, kind of like Netflix. Only with magazines.)

Let’s say you subscribe to American Photo (hi!) and it only comes once every other month. Or you pick a magazine that only publishes ten issues a year. You get to pick alternate magazines to replace the ones that aren’t monthly. So on the off months that a new issue of American Photo isn’t published I’ll get National Geographic in its place.

All it takes is a few clicks to change around any of the magazines your getting, want to get, don’t want to get or to do other things like add another subscription, change your address or have a particular magazine come in a particular persons name. (you know, like if you were a parent who liked to share and let your kid choose Disney Princess magazine it could come in her name. Or you could be like me and never let her know that there is such a thing as Disney Princess magazine. (As an aside, it’s only $3 more a month to get two more magazines.))

oh my goodness, this is brilliant! its so exciting i dont even know which magazines i’d want…or actually, which ones i’d narrow it down to. hmm, probably martha stewart living, real simple and country living, or veranda. and since my hubby isn’t a magazine reader i could keep it all to myself!

Well, I work in the magazine industry, and even though I have subscriptions to a dozen or so, I still spend BIG BUCKS on newsstand buys each month. I’ve never heard of Maghound, but this is so great because so many of my magazines (Budget Travel, Islands, Afar, etc.) only publish 6, 8 or 10 issues every year–this way, I wouldn’t be penalized!

I’m all about me some Better Homes and Gardens, Martha Stewart, and Real Simple in my house.

And I will add that I am also the proud owner of EVERY SINGLE Domino magazine that was ever printed.

That said, maghound might be the beginning of hoarding addiction. Call A&E now!

Without looking I’m going to guess that they don’t have any magazines for me.

Whenever people come to my door selling mag subscriptions, they like to brag about all of the choices available and that there’s “something for everyone”.

I ask if they have “Star Trek”. No.

Then they pry into my life trying to find a matching title.

I’m a linguist. I translate.

Nope, nothing.

Sometimes they encourage me to get a new hobby.

Oh my gosh… I am drooling right now. I love magazines. It would take me days to decide how I’d split it up!!! My husband thinks I’ve spent equal amounts on pregnancy tests and magazines. Sadly, I think he might be right. I would definitely want some In Style, Family Fun, Martha Stewart, running magazines, fitness magazines, Health, Self, Lucky… I should stop now.

I’m finding myself in a similar situation. When I was pregnant, I took advantage of some free/cheap subscriptions to pregnancy and parenting magazines. Now that I’ve miscarried, I can’t seem to keep them out of my house! Hurts too much…

I would probably hook myself up with Real Simple (my favorite!), Everyday Food, Food Network Mag, and ESPN Magazine (you know…for the hubs).

I would probably get GOOD and Discover for myself, and Popular Mechanic for my Dad.

I’m bummed that they don’t have Mental Floss, which is an AMAZING magazine about being cultured and smart, without all the pretentiousness. It’s like what a Wikipedia magazine would look like if written by the editors of Maxim (minus the boobs). For instance, one of their t-shirts says, “Hyperbole is like the best thing ever!”

Wow. This is exactly what I need. Well, don’t need, but I certainly love the idea.

Whoops, I am teh dumb. I would probably end up getting two for myself and something for my sister-in-law… Real Simple or Domino or something fun like that for her, and something totally shallow for me, since I already get the other two.

Another fine example how the man is keeping Canadians down.

Oh, cool! We have Gamefly, which is like Netflix for video games, but I never thought of doing it with magazines. Brilliant. And economical, for me, because I always end up buying off the news stand.

I’d probably keep them all for myself because the husband already gets like four magazines a month. I’d have to go for American Patchwork & Quilting, Martha Stewart, and Indianapolis Monthly. And maybe some National Geographic Little Kids thrown in there.

Wow, this is a great idea. Do they have gossip magazines (yes it is my weakness, I can’t help it). People, Us Weekly and maybe I would share one with someone else in the house. I bet the hubs would pick some boring technical magazine that would make me snore but maybe I would let him have one so he wouldn’t bug me, lol.

That is really freakin cool. I would choose consumer reports, national geographic, and cooking light. and then sometimes, when i’m feeling light, i’d substitute in trashy magazines at will. oh boy, my fingers are crossed hard

Seriously good idea. I understand there is a similar service for video games. But the magazine thing is a wicked cool idea!!

I had to stop looking around I was getting all excited! Wow.. I can’t pick just 3 mags but here are a few that I would get:

* National Geographic for little kids (for my grand daughter)

* People (cuz I am nosy like that)

* The Atlantic (cuz my b/f subscription ran out and he LURVES this mag)

* Popular Photography (cuz I wanna be a photog when I grow up)

I had to click out of magdog before I got the credit card.

I’d get Black Belt (cause I am one), Organic Gardening, and Dwell … until I swap one out for something else. What a cool service!

What a cool idea!!! I would probably get things like Real Simple, This Old House and Better Homes and Gardens so I could drool over all the home improvement ideas and plan out what we could do to our house once hubby finished grad school!

I’d love to check out their collection and find some fun new magazines, because a few years ago I mysteriously became subscribed to Marie Claire and a few others that I don’t really care to read.

What a great service! Coastal Living, Midwest Living, Real Simple, Shop Smart…so many great choices! I would so keep these all to myself, but I might let the hubs swap in a sports magazine once in awhile.

This is such a great idea. I love that if I grow tired of a subscription I can change it up. I would most likely share at least one of my choices with my husband – but who knows I found many mags I would like to try.

Kinda like Netflix but w/ mags? What a great idea. I especially like being able to change or sub out w/ other issues. I admit that I would be leary to try this out though. But with a positive recommendation from a real person I am more interested.

Magazines are my guilty pleasure(next to the internet). I could pick out something for the kids or the hubs but I’d end up reading it anyway so why bother.;)

This is so awesome. I don’t know where to start to pick my favorite magazines! Definately Martha Stewart Living, Outdoor Life for my hubby, and I don’t know on the last one.

This is perfect for a magazine junkie like me! I am forever ordering a magazine only to hate it and then be stuck with it so I love the idea that I’m not stuck with an entire year (or five!) of a magazine that I don’t want. Also? Sometimes I’d just like to read something a little different than the usual five cooking magazines that arrive in my box each month

If there is a “All MICKEY MOUSE, ALL THE TIME” Disney magazine for my son I would totally get it for him, simply because it would maybe afford me the quiet time to look at my own magazine.
I would also perhaps allow my husband a choice…

I would get a couple cooking magazines for me and Disney Princesses for my daughter. Then I’d feel guilty that I didn’t get any for my son or husband and I’d end up purchasing 1500 magazines a month.

That’s a hard question to pick just three. One would be US Weekly because I currently ‘borrow’ someones from the mailroom to read. I would have to say something Newsie so I don’t fill my brain with too much trash and then some crafty mag.

i’m too cheap to pay $24/yr for real simple, so that would be my automatic #1. other than that, i already get free subscriptions of some other faves thanks to my coke rewards points, so i would be intellectual and get Time or Newsweek, with a dash of Vogue thrown in. yeah, that sounds good. now i just need to find the time to read them all!

I’ll admit to being a Real Simple junkie. But you know what magazine really irks me? Entertainment Weekly. I can’t put my finger on why but it hurts my brain. And I perused the maghound website. I may have to subscribe to Texas Monthly. I mean, why not?

Shut up, there is a Disney Princess magazine? I’d have to use one of the spots for that one just so I could watch my girls heads explode when it arrived. Then probably a Real Simple or something like that for me and Men’s Health for the hubby. And then, if hubby makes me mad I could get revenge by canceling his mag and getting something gossipy-fashiony!

I need another mag habit like a hole in the head, but I love this idea!! It rocks! I would definately get Sports Illustrated and probably Log Home Living (if available) (cause my dream is a log home) and people. Cause I like to see what movie stars are doing! lmao. I’m so lame.

I would probably hog them all for myself. Altho the hubs does like to read my Popular Photography Mag-I have never checked out American Photo-but I bet it would be awesome too! I see that Scrapbooks etc is bimonthly, but AllYou is monthly (which I love for the coupons)

So, at first, I was all, “Meh. Magazines. Who cares?”

BUT THEN I started looking at the magazines, and I was all, “oooooh. National Geographic! Various cooking magazines! News magazines!”

Only, they don’t have The Economist. Do they hate me? It is currently the only one I subscribe to, but really it is my husband who subscribes. And he is letting it run out because it is rather expensive being a weekly and all. Maybe I would settle with Time?

This is so cool!! I would probably get the Atlantic for me and the BF to read, alternate between Gourmet and Food & Wine, and maybe Vanity Fair. Do you read Vanity Fair? There are always at least 4 or 5 long articles in each issue, and they’re always about something interesting that I have never heard of before.

wait….just being told about this site is a PRIZE! If I won your giveaway I’d get runner’s world (my subscription is coming to an end and i’ve been getting it for more than 10 years)then Dwell. I’ve heard it is good. And National Geographic for little kids. My kids would love it. Although my son would probably enjoy the princess magazine as much as my daughter. Even if I don’t win I’ll probably subscribe anyhow. You can pick 3 more for $3 more a month. First i’ve gotta run it by the hubby. We are trying to stick to the budget and we have $7 left in the grocery and date cash pile until the 15th. Not doing so hot on budgeting! I might have to start “hookin” for some extra magazine cash!

I’d choose Real Simple, In Style and Consumer Reports.

Wait… you pay your $5 a month (or whatever) and they send you magazines every month and you don’t have to send them back? No extra subscription fees? Just $5? Holy %^*#*^%! That’s brilliant! Oooo… Family Fun, Newsweek, In Syle or Lucky, National Geographic for Kids… My husband would want Mad but I won’t let it in the house, anymore, now that the four-year-old reads. Maybe Dwell for him. The mind boggles, Casey.

I am upset that they don’t have a single knitting magazine, though. Very disappointing.

I’d choose Popular Mechanics, Popular Science (*cough* nerd *cough*) and whatever magazine had Kristen Bell and/or Reese Witherspoon on the cover that month. (Don’t judge me.)

Yup, I’d get them all for me. But I’d share them by being all informed and more nerdy and therefore that. much. cooler. to hang around. Doy.

And sure, I’d give them to the girl that cuts my hair when I’m done. Because that girl is great and all, but I know the other dudes waiting for a cut don’t care about Redbook (unless, of course, Kristen Bell and/or Reese Witherspoon are on the cover).

Ooo, it IS like Netflix, only for mags! Cool. I think the biggest benefit would be the ability to try out a lot of different titles. And the ability to drop titles that no longer work for you.

I LOVE this idea. I’m forever trying to justify my magazine purchases. I’m super all about Mother Jones, national Geographic, and Psychology Today. My only sadness is that they do not have Rolling Stone. Oh well, my locally owned news stand will continue to get some support.

Holy smokes. That is the best thing in the world! I love magazines, but tire of them quickly, or I pick one up at the doctor’s office and never find the magic when I get them at home. Wow! What a great idea. This would be perfect for my mother, who probably single-handedly kept the magazine industry in business (can you say over 30 magazine subscriptions a month!). This would be great to switch up magazine every now and then. Sometimes you just feel like getting a Cosmo instead of a parenting magazine.

You know, if it came in my mailbox, I pretty much would read anything. I love Vanity Fair, because they feature Annie Leibowitz’s photos in nearly every issue. My kids are digging National Geographic for Kids. Being a SAHM, I seem to be a bit behind with current affairs, so Newsweek would be great. Of course, any guilty pleasures like Cosmo, Glamour, or US Weekly could be fun! I love the flexibility of changing the subscriptions. I’d be a kid in a candy store!

Cosmo for me, Readers Digest & National Geographic for my mom. Well, technically its for my mom but really it would allow me to cancel the subscriptions I have for her now, so really it would save me money. I’d get a business magazine for my hubby, a lifestyle magazine for myself and a parenting magazine for the kids–well, for me. They don’t read yet, but it is to help me help them.

I, too, have a subscription to Parents magazine that isn’t welcome.

I would split up the mags between me and hubby, letting him pick something like Mustang 5.0 while I sneaked (snook?) into the bathtub with the latest issue of Vogue.

This is a FANTASTIC idea!

I would use this to manage subscriptions to the many cooking magazines I want, which (in my opinion) have different strengths at different times of year. At holidays I’d do Martha, in summer I’d do Cooking Light, a few times a year when I was feeling ambitious, I’d do Gourmet. This is a GREAT idea!

I love the idea of maghound. I am magazineless right now, so I would love to start enjoying my favorites on a regular basis. Instyle, Food Network, Real Simple–so hard to choose!
