A Snackish Contest.

Given that I’m about to bask in the glow of So You Think You Can Dance for the next two hours (OH HAPPY FLIPPING DAY) it’s a given that I am going to need a snack. Maybe several.

Now if I had my choice I’d me shoving Air Heads, Cheetos and Oreos down my gullet and breakneck speed.

But then I’d be kinda big. And unhealthy. And probably kinda sick. Not to mention I’d most likely poop funny colors.

So I have to choose wisely. Way more wisely than Air Heads, Cheetos and Oreos.

Which leads me to my list of of favorite snackish type things (and the moosh’s, gah I hate to share sometimes.).

  • Avocado, cut into chunks with a wee bit of salsa and a sprinkle of garlic salt. Dip what you wish. Or just eat it straight out of the bowl. Whatever.
  • Fritos (scoops) dipped into (4% large curd) cottage cheese. Did you snarl your nose? Dude, if you only knew.
  • Cold pineapple(fresh only), a bit of milk (2%), some ice and a splash of vanilla. Blend the daylights out of it and OH BABY.
  • Edamame (soybeans, I prefer shelled). Steamed, brought to room temperature and lightly salted.
  • Ham (deli sliced) wrapped (Vlasic please) dill pickles. Okay, so sodium overload. But it’s only occasional.
  • Artichokes. Steamed. With a little mayo to dip. My sister and I used to battle over the heart.
  • Finally, popcorn and orange juice. But not just any popcorn. Only Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn is allowed in my house and I prefer it to be either Old Fashioned Butter or their new Buttery Garlic stuff (loooove). And yes, orange juice. Like peas and carrots. My dad and sister subscribe to the popcorn orange juice school of thought also.

After a very stressful day on the popcorn aisle when I was unable to find Old Fashioned Butter, (seriously, when they stop making something you so dearly love and are impassioned to? STRESSFUL.) I swore to never love again.

Turns out I was just at the wrong store. Old Fashioned Butter is alive and well. And on sale at Marsh. *phew*

Orville heard of my loyalty and offered up a couple of sweet gift packs of popcorn for me to give away. Want one? You know you do. I got one, well, I already ate it all, but I got one.

So here goes. Leave a comment, tell me you’re favorite snack or what popcorn you are loyal to. Let’s just say if it’s not Orville Redenbacher’s Old Fashioned Butter you don’t know what you’re talking about. (However I should give credit to the Buttery Garlic stuff, it comes in mini bags, Old Fashioned doesn’t.) I can’t sit on the couch for longer than an hour without popcorn. Seriously. Love.

Okay, contest. comment, tell me your favorite snack, your family’s favorite snack. A snack that holds a special place in your heart. I’ll pick two comments at random on Monday May 26th. Which means you have until Sunday May 25th at midnight EST to enter. And which also means you need to leave me a valid email address (no one else will see it but me.).

Good luck. I’m going to go pop some popcorn, I told myself I couldn’t have any until after I wrote this post.

Oops, forgot to hit publish. Heh.

Am I disqualified if I admit that I did snarl my nose at Scoops and cottage cheese? Dude.

I’m going to go with homemade guacamole and yellow corn chips. I hate almost a whole bowl of guacamole when I was pregnant with baby girl and then couldn’t stand to even LOOK at an avocado for the rest of the pregnancy. It was a sad, sad time in my life. Luckily, I’ve recovered!

I’m kind of partial to good old air popped popcorn – with lots of butter and not too much salt. Nothing like taking something relatively healthy and pouring butter on it.

I’m also kind of partial to corn chips with flax seed from the bulk food store – I like salty.

I’ve really enjoy reading your blog – keep up the good work :)

Do you mix the popcorn and orange juice?? Yikes.

Actually, I have no room to talk. My family (mother’s side) LOVES fritos and bananas. Together. Scoops are probably better, cause then you can just slice the banana right onto the frito. Yum… Darn, now I gotta go buy bananas.

I love popcorn. I don’t have a particular favorite brand…whatever is on sale usually. But I LOVE eating it with chocolate fudge. I don’t usually have that around, so any chocolate will do. My great-grandparents always served popcorn with fudge, so did my grandparents, and my mom did occasionally. No wonder I do it. So, I can understand your orange juice with popcorn thing.

My best friend makes the best guacamole. I would eat it every day. With my favorite chips, Santitas white corn tortilla chips (I don’t know why, I just really like the thickness etc). I could also snack constantly on bread and cheese. My favorite cheese is called ‘barely buzzed’ and I buy it at the fancy cheese store where my friend works. It has lavender in it and is coated in coffee grounds. Are you snarling your nose now? Well, it’s actually delicious!

I love me some Orville popcorn. When the bag just comes out of the microwave I pour it in a plastick bowl and then throw in a handful of regular M&M’s. The chocolate melts a bit and is a perfect combination of sweet and salt. It is the cheap mans version of Peterbrooke’s (local chocolatier) chocolate covered popcorn.

I also love, love, love chocolate chip cookies. When they are warm from the oven put a few in a bowl and then put a scoop of vanilla ice cream over them and hear them sizzle and ooze. Yummy!

…and now for the part where I kiss up. Your blog is seriously the first one that I check each morning. LOVE IT!

I should say that your cottage cheese/Frito taste should be altered just a bit. When I was in kindergarten ( it was half day kindergarted way back when ), every Wednesday after school my Granny would pick me up after school. I love prosciutto and provolone wrapped asparagus – totally rich flavor! you can’t stop eating them. At least there is a veggie involved!

1. I totally second the ham/pickle thing, but I slather cream cheese around my pickle first.

2. yogurt, frozen mango, and some fresh granola. What a sweet treat!

Pour the little round tostitos on a plate & cover with shredded cheese ~ pop in the microwave just long enough to melt it & then plop a spoonful of sour cream on the side. YUM! Hubs & I do this for our movie nights & then curl up in bed & fight over the cheesy cheesy bites.

During pregnancy I COVET peanut butter ice cream w/ cold strawberries & a drizzle of chocolate syrup. What? I’m pregnant & it tastes GOOOOOOD. And it doesn’t hurt my throat on it’s second showing.

Tostitos will destroy your esophogus when they re-appear. At least that’s what it feels like to me anyway. I’m off tostitos for the next 7 months.

BTW – Pour-Over-Cheddar-style Popcorn ~ ROCKS. You gotta try it!!

Bellamomma’s last blog post..“The clock will strike midnight … and she’ll be gone”

I knew my husband loved me when he let me eat his artichoke heart (hey, this is NOT dirty!)! Love those!

I love popcorn, too, and now I put some it a paper sack and microwave it. So much cleaner, easier! Then decorate it, salt, garlic, buttery topping, cheese, whateva!

Wendy’s last blog post..it’s official: we’re White Trash

My ultimate favorite snack is any of my homemade cookies. I make the best cookies, in my opinion! Lunch meat, cream cheese and pickles are yummy too. I was introduced to it at my wedding reception, love at first taste. I also like small curd cottage cheese and canned pineapple with the juice. Sliced apples dipped into peanut butter. Baked tortilla chips dipped into a mixture of sour cream and salsa or cream cheese and salsa. Thanks for this post, I have been needing to eat healthier snacks. I have had a dozen or two many of my cookies.:)

You know what popcorn was awesome? Whatever brand it was that briefly came out with Corn on the Cob flavor. I LOVED it. It really tasted like roasted corn on the cob. Sadly, I have not seen it in years, and fear that I was the only one who loved it.

My other favorite snack is Ritz crackers. Plain. It’s so boring, and I could sit down and eat an entire sleeve in one sitting.

My husband I love Uncle Willie’s Kettle Corn, it’s half the price of other popcorn and super good! I hadn’t seen it till I moved to Tennessee, and we can’t get enough of it.

For a special treat, I’ll make caramel popcorn from scratch with melted butter, brown sugar and light corn syrup. Pour over plain popcorn in a brown paper bag and shake it up, delicious!!

Love your blog!

Kimberly’s last blog post..Somehow surviving…

Oh my stars, it is ALL about the Old Fashioned Butter. I’m a big buttered popcorn fan and my husband notsomuch, but this stuff is a great compromise that we both love. I just about can’t tolerate any other flavor, such is my passion.

So at my house, our guilty snack is chocolate ice cream with Jif peanut butter spooned in. Yeah, you can get fatter just thinking of it….

Avacado slices with a bit of salt? Heaven! Also, Wheat Thins with cottage cheese. Or anything with melted cheese on top.

My evil indulgence? Pretzels & Nutella. I have to limit my Nutella consumption to a couple times a year, or it could be the death of me.

Should I be embarrassed that I didn’t know what edamame was?

RG in ID’s last blog post..Global warming my butt

mmm i love kettle corn…

2 of my favorite snacks:

mix blue belle homemade vanilla with orange juice…SO good!

mcdonald’s french fries dipped in their vanilla ice cream. YUM!

biddy’s last blog post..ketchup…catsup…oh yeah, CATCH UP

Orville’s on cottage cheese, not just any, it has to be Breakstones 4%. Good, weird but good! If we are out of popcorn, pretzels will be in a pinch. Seriously.

I know a LOT of people who insist on OJ with their popcorn!

I actually eat popcorn almost every day. I get the 100 calorie bags of the fat free kind (butter, of course…just a lot less fat). I used to buy Act II, though. Because they were the only mini bags at wally world. But now, I actually have Orville Redenbacher Smart Pop Mini bags.

Also – pretzels. I have an unhealthy love for pretzels.

Butrfly Garden’s last blog post..Answer You Anything! Part One.

My fav popcorn is Kettle Corn. Tim thinks it’s the worst thing EVER.

But we have two snacks in our house that we really love: 1) seafood/shrimp surprise dip and 2) a cream cheese bean dip thingy. Mmmmmmm

ashlee’s last blog post..26 Weeks Pregnant!

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been counting down the weeeeeeks until So You Think You Can Dance came back on! It’s BY FAR the best show out there….especially in summer.

On to my snacks… our family loves ice cream. We’re totally ice cream people. But I will not allow an ice cream with a hardened chocolate in it in my house (ie: It’s gotta be oreo and not chocolate chip)…cookie dough is the one exception to the rule.

You have to try my popcorn, though. A bag of popcorn (even butterless would work if you’re being healthy) sprinkled with fresh lime juice and….wait for it…hot sauce. YUMMY!

Nicole’s last blog post..May 6th is right around the corner…

Popcorn has always been one of my favorite snacks – even back in the dark ages before we had a microwave and you had to buy the OR popcorn kernels in the glass (not a fun mess when you drop THAT one!!) jar and use a pot on the stove or a popcorn popper. The best was when mom would pop the popcorn, then put it in a big paper bag and pour melted butter and lots of salt on it. NUMMY!!

I will admit, I used to love to take a spoonful (JIF only, please) of peanut butter and eat that for a snack. Not an option any more – my daughter has a severe peanut allergy so we do not even have it in the house. My withdrawal when we found out about it and I had to give it up was brutal…good thing she is worth it =)

Anything dipped in hummus, rotel and velveta melted together with frito scoops.

Rayne of Terror’s last blog post..Trudi update

Tuna mixed up with a little mayo and spread on Ritz, and heavily peppered. And also fresh snow peas, but not at the same time.

We are trying to loose some serious weight around our house, so right now we love chocolate type protein bars – boring I know.

If lifestyle choices were in the scenario, then I would pick a plethora of chocolate, you know rolos, m&m’s, kisses, etc. with popcorn thrown in for good measure.

Now I have to go and eat a protein bar before I go and raid the pantry!

my family is all about the ice cream. unfortunately, no one agrees on the flavor. makes the freezer a little … uh … overcrowded!

WOO HOO for snackies!!!

Julio’s chips (made in San Angelo, TX- tortilla chips with seasoned salt) with homeade salsa.

Hummus and toasted pita bread.

Queso and chips.

Good thing I don’t have ANY of this at home…I’d eat it ALL right now!

Mini pretzels and ice cold milk. While reading in the bathtub.

My favorite snacks tend to go in phases… sometimes its as weird as chips + ice cream, other times its oranges (as in 2+ at a time) or green beans (raw, the kind you snap). When I’m in one of my phases thats pretty much all I’ll eat for a snack… drives my family crazy :)

heather’s last blog post..I guess this is a ‘blob’

CHEESE CURLS/BALLS. I have an addiction. (Also? I think we’re snack twins. I love each and everything on your list, and avocados are my desert island food.)

mmmm…snacks… I just discovered a new one: a slice of good sourdough bread, toasted, and then spread with home-made chocolate buttercream icing. Only home-made. With real, good, bitter cocoa powder and everything. The only problem with this snack is that it makes you want to eat 10 more slices.

MommyTime’s last blog post..Green Up Your Thumb, part 2

We love pita chips and avocado (when it is perfectly ripe we scoop it right out of the shell) or pita chips and hummus (trade joe’s mediterranean is the BEST!). We also love Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn, but only the yellow air pop variety…. I have my parents old school popper from the 80′s where the butter melts in the lid while it pops. mmmmmmnnnnnn

Melissa’s last blog post..Cade Thomas is here!

Chips and salsa are a family favorite. My husband loves cheese con queso and prefers pico de gallo but I’ll eat any salsa. Even little Hailey digs her some tortilla chips. Oh and avocado with salt – yum-o.

I love popcorn popped with minimarshmallows and crushed peppermint candies! My mom used to make it all the time – she learned the recipe from a bakery that made it for weddings. You need one of those wirlypop stove top popper things – but it is delicious!

My all time favorite snack is Ruffles original potato chips with “shrimp dip” (made with a bar of cream cheese, a can of condensed cream of shrimp soup, some garlic salt, some worsteshire (sp) sauce, and a bit of lemon juice) SO GOOD!!! I could eat the whole bowl of dip. It’s so tasty and special we only ever ate/eat it on general conference weekend. YUMM-EE!!

susan’s last blog post..I was wrong…

My favorite popcorn is the kind my dad made—a little hot oil at the bottom of the pan, popcorn kernels, shake, shake, shake until popped and sprinkle with salt. No butter, ever! I remember thinking butter was kind of weird on popcorn.

He’s gone now but I still love that kind of popcorn. And with my oldest allergic to milk, we end up buying the hardest-to-find kind of microwave popcorn: oil, salt, no butter.

Oh, and I like green lollipops dipped in milk. Pinkie swear.

I love your new header! I’m behind on visiting all my favorite blogs, so this is my first visit in a few days or more.

Loved your list of favorite snacks. I have a long list of favs too, but lately I can’t eat much of them because of my lapband restriction.

I normally love raw veggies with ranch dip, garlic/parmesean/sundried tomato crackers, fruit smoothies, melted cheese on wheat thins, popcorn (I’m a popcorn whore, I’ll eat almost any kind) and sour cream and onion pringles (bad, I know).

Rhea’s last blog post..A new member of the family.

How fun!

I really like the Orville Redenbacher Smart pop Kettle Corn. It’s sweet and salty, and not too greasy.

I think I’m #100! Oooh!

My current favorite snack is Turtle Chex Mix. Yum.

And SYTYCD? Love it! Missed this weeks opened since I was camping with my students. But last year, I took my daughter to see the tour when it came around. It was a lot of fun.

Mim’s last blog post..Just Lovely

Ok…favorite snack ever would have to be Ritz crackers with Philadelphia Cream Cheese spread on top and then a slice of Hormel pepperoni on top of that. MMMMM! As for popcorn I also love Mr. Redenbacher however I go for the ultra healthy pour over movie theater butter variety.

Old Dutch or Lays Salt and Vinegar chips.
Favourite snack BY FAR.

Meg’s last blog post..Will’s Choice

HOLY MOSES! We ALWAYS had our popcorn with OJ growing up. I totally understand (actually, I’m picking popcorn hulls out of my teeth as I write, but tonight washed it down with a little sauvingnon blanc…. yeah, I know). A little shameless self promotion here, but I’m kinda diggin’ the Homestead Mushroom Pate I have made the last 2 weeks for the Farmers Markets. Lots of roasted garlic and sweet Sherry. With pita chips. Love it love it!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

Ok, maybe you don’t, but I do!

Ya know, I’m not usually a snacker. IF I am in a snacking mood somehow I would probably snack on Doritos. Cheese flavor.

Or, microwave popcorn with melted butter on it. Yes, it isn’t good for the heart but it’s great for the mouth!!!

If I’m watching a movie I like sour patch kids. Mmmmm

Oh! My current favorite? Chocolate chips and peanut butter…pathetic, but simple and delicious.

Lauren’s last blog post..Happy Weekend!

My favorite new snack is fritos scoops, filled with chipolte salsa and some melted velveta on top. Kind of like a nacho, but butter. Also, try the new Kettle cooked Jalapeno chips. They are almost too good…

Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn (any flavor) & mixed with a bag of salt n vinegar chips

poutine … yummy (french fries, gravy & cheese lots of cheese)

Twizzlers or Cheetos!!!!

I’m a huge time fan of Hershey’s Almond kisses. And gummy bears, but only Black Forest brand, because the green ones taste like apple instead of lime. Yes, its that important.
